PT Stud
reported by Shannon Callahan on 8/03/00

Dear Mary and Jack,

I wanted to share with you a some recent memories of Scott, so that you
can
envision what he was up to these days.

We FASO students have to PT 3 times a week as a group. (Scott always
turns
quite a few heads at the gym anyway, with his extremely tan and
muscular
physique and workout clothes that show it off!) Last Wednesday, Scott
led us
in PT. For jumping jacks (otherwise known as the "side-straddle hop")
he
simply said, "Go until I say stop," instead of giving a set number for
us to
do. This was the last time I saw Scott, and how I prefer to remember
him --
leading.

Talked to Keith Kauffman last night, a friend of mine and Scott's who
was in
his FASO class. He told me that he and Scott had planned to go biking
once,
but it rained. Keith backed out, but Scott was not deterred. Keith saw
him a
few hours later, absolutely covered with mud and loving it.

Johnny Loftin remembered an anecdote this morning: Scott organized the
first
ice climbing expedition of the Mountaineers' Club at USNA. "He put
together
more trips than anyone," Johnny remembered.

Everyone here sends you prayers as well as admiration for raising such
an
amazing individual. At the memorial, LCDR Eisenzimmer said that
whatever you
two did, he wished he could "bottle that for [his] kids." I met the
lady
whose car was shot at before Scott's. She has three boys, and after the
memorial service, told me she hoped they grew up to be like Scott. "He
was a
hero," she said.

I'll see you soon at Arlington. God Bless.
Love,
Shannon Callahan
