Map to Arlington Gravesite

The Wooden Cross has been removed from the side of the road by the Department of Transportation.  Jason Pomponio Collected the surviving pieces which included the Ice pick, the War Medal, two Flags, and the cross itself.

On March 31st a new Memorial Stone commissioned by the USNA Class of 1998 replaced the cross, just on the outside of the highway fence.

Permanent Monument goes up in memory of slain Naval Officer

The Climbing wall at the Naval Academy is complete.

Scott turned over the climbing division of the Naval Academy's Mountaineering Club to me during his senior year at the Academy when I was a sophomore. During his time here he was known to all for his passion for climbing at his valiant attempts to bring climbing to the Academy. He made every effort to enlarge our club and plan for the Academy to get a rock wall of its own. When he turned over the club he told me to keep trying, someday it would happen. This summer they started the planning and construction of a $350,000 rock wall at the Academy. A proposal has been floating around written in 1995 by Midn 3/c Scott Kinkele(a sophomore at the time). After all these years, Scott's hard work has paid off and everyone here at the Naval Academy will benefit from his efforts for years to come. I am presently attempting to see if we can dedicate a plaque on the wall to Scott and the legacy he leaves behind here.

He was a mentor, a role-model, and a friend to so many here...he will live on in our hearts, our dreams, and our memories for years to come. This world has lost an amazing man...

"Never take times with friends for granted. One day you may
understand  why I live  my life the way I do (maybe I will understand
too)...I climb...in climbing I am put in a position where two people are
suffering, and the only way to make it out is  to pull together. The feeling
of living, completing a climb, finishing...there will be a celebration
with those who saw you through those times.
Be glad that those times exist. They are special moments."

"Take care and live life to the fullest." - Scott Kinkele
