A Rosary was held on Tuesday, August 15th 2000 at The
Arlington Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia. A viewing took place from 6 to 8pm, with
The Rosary starting at 7:30. Afterwards, many of Scott's family and friends met at the
Capitol Hilton, to share stories, memories and photographs of Scott. Amidst
laughter, tears, anger and sorrow we silently awaited the funeral the next day.
The Funeral started at 2:45pm on August 16th, 2000 in the Old Chapel at
Arlington National Cemetery. The somber attendees filed into the historic
building in small groups, some whispering greetings outside before making the journey
across the parking lot and into the chapel.
A full Catholic Mass was celebrated, with the priest bestowing words of
hope and encouragement, and compassion and understanding upon Scott's remaining family.
As the flag-draped casket made its' way down the aisle and out the door of the
chapel, those in attendance paid their respects by following the journey with their heads
bowed in honor, memory and grief.
The Interment began with the military pallbearers escorting the casket
to the gravesite. The family was given a few precious, private moments to reflect on
the green landscape with its rows and rows of similar white rectangular
tombstones.
Stones etched with the precious facts of so many other lost ones.
A reception at the Officer's Club at Fort Meyers followed.
Here more memories of Scott were shared as the mourners took a brief moment
to celebrate our lost one's life. All who knew him understood - Scott's spirit had
been present in each and every one of us that whole day. Almost silent
whispers seemed to rebound between the 21-gun salute graveside, and the rumble of
conversation at the reception: "Take care and live life to the fullest" you
could almost hear...Don't let my life, nor departure, do anything but enrich your life and
empower you to reach for and attain joy in every living moment.
Close personal friend and photographer Pedro Espina photographed much of
the proceedings of this day. Click here to
